この度祐天寺のPaper Poolで開催されるグループ写真展「The Suburbs 2025」に参加致します。昨年、一昨年に引き続き、都会でも田舎でもなく、その狭間にある郊外のイメージをテーマにした12人の写真展です。是非お気軽にお立ち寄り下さい。会場はギャラリー＆カフェバーですので、ワンドリンクのご注文をお願いいたします。私の在廊日はまだ未定です。私が在廊している時にお越しになりたい、という方はご連絡下さい。 できる限り調整いたします。

時間が許せば他の写真や、最近のコンサート撮影の仕事の写真をプリントしたポートフォリオも持参しようと思っております。合わせてご覧いただければ嬉しいです。

私の作品と「郊外」について： 

昨年、一昨年とこのテーマで展示してきて実感したことですが、「郊外」という場所の範囲の捉え方は個人によって相当違う事がわかりました。もしかすると全員違うかもしれません。その認識の違いもグループ展で見るポイントではないかと思います。
かく言う私も一般的な認識とかなりズレがあることがわかりました。東京の真ん中の区で育ったためか、例えば銀座であれば都心ですが、池袋なら郊外に近いです。えっ、それは違うと思われる方も多いでしょう。この辺の感じ方を話していくと自然に自分のルーツを見返す事になり、作家や他のお客様と語ってみるのも面白いかもしれません。 

昨年私の展示写真を見て、「郊外が一枚もない」と仰ったお客様がいらっしゃいました。この言葉が私の認識を見直してみる一つのきっかけになったと思い感謝しています。改めて辞書やwikipediaで「郊外」を検索してみると、やはり色んな捉え方があり、明確には区切れないように思います。また国が違えば都市の在り方も違い、郊外の定義も当然変わってくるでしょう。時代と共にも変わってくるでしょう。一昔前まではタワーマンションなどこんなに林立している建物ではありませんでしたし、今や昭和に建てられた建物を「古民家」と呼ぶ方もいらっしゃいます。そう考えるとこれは定点観測的に継続していける、興味深く楽しいテーマかもしれません。

Group Photo Exhibition “The Suburbs 2025” at Paper Pool

I’m pleased to announce that I will be participating in the upcoming group photo exhibition “The Suburbs 2025”, held at Paper Pool in Yutenji, Tokyo. This is the third year for this exhibition, which features 12 photographers exploring the idea of the “suburbs” — not quite urban, not quite rural, but somewhere in between. 

Please feel free to drop by. The venue is a combined gallery and café bar, so we kindly ask that you order at least one drink when you visit. 

I haven’t decided my gallery days yet. If you’d like to come when I’m there, feel free to contact me in advance — I’ll do my best to arrange it. If time allows, I may also bring along a portfolio with other recent works, including some of my concert photography. I’d be happy to show you those as well.

About My Work and “The Suburbs” 

Through participating in this exhibition over the past two years, I’ve realized how widely perceptions of “the suburbs” can vary. Perhaps each of us has a different definition. This diversity in interpretation might be one of the most interesting aspects of the show. Personally, I’ve noticed that my idea of what counts as “suburban” doesn’t always align with the general view. Having grown up in central Tokyo, I consider Ginza to be downtown, but Ikebukuro already feels suburban to me — which might sound strange to others. One visitor last year said to me, “There’s not a single suburban image in your work.” That comment really made me think, and I’m grateful for it. When I looked up definitions of “suburbs” in dictionaries and Wikipedia, I found many interpretations — vague and often dependent on context. It also varies from country to country, and naturally changes with time. Tokyo today looks very different from just a few decades ago: high-rise towers were rare, and now buildings from the Showa era are being called “old houses.” 

In that sense, this is a theme we can continue to revisit over time — a kind of visual fieldwork that stays fascinating and fun.

Some works in the show will be for sale, while others are not. My prints will be available for purchase, though of course, you’re also very welcome to come and simply enjoy the work. If you do decide to buy something, the proceeds will go toward supporting my future projects. Your support would mean a lot.
